Fire pits and outdoor fireplaces in Atlanta, GA

Wood-burning and gas fire pits and fireplaces, built into the patio and planned around seating and safe clearances.

Fire pits

A fire pit is the easiest way to make a patio usable from October to April, which is most of Atlanta’s best outdoor weather. We build round or square pits from wall block or natural stone with a steel fire ring liner, and set them so there’s room for chairs all the way around. A built-in seat wall nearby gives extra seating without more furniture.

Outdoor fireplaces

A fireplace gives a patio a focal point and a sense of enclosure, and its tall back wall can block a view or a neighbor’s window. Fireplaces are heavy, so they need a proper concrete footing, and the chimney height and clearances need planning from the start.

Planning for safety

  • Keep fire features well away from the house, overhanging trees and wooden structures
  • Use fire-rated materials inside the burn area
  • Run gas lines with a licensed plumber and the required permit
  • Check your city’s open-burning rules and your HOA’s covenants before building a wood-burning feature

Common questions

Wood or gas?

Wood gives the crackle and smell but makes smoke and needs a place to store firewood. Gas lights with a switch and is cleaner, but needs a gas line run by a licensed plumber. Many people choose gas for small intown lots where neighbors are close.

Does an outdoor fireplace need a permit?

Often, yes, especially for gas lines and larger masonry fireplaces. Rules vary by city and HOAs often have their own, so we confirm both before we build.
